A massive, warm welcome to our new M1s coach, Kike, who’s joining us all the way from the Canary Islands. Kike has a wealth of experience including coaching the Spanish under 16 national team and being first assistant to the Spanish national indoor hockey men's team.
With 15 years of professional hockey experience under his belt and various international coaching stints, he is definitely keen to bring his dedication and passionate personality, along with his calm and flexible attitude, to the club.
While getting everything ready to move, he took some time off to answer all our questions:
My main motivation was to help the club improve, especially the M1’s team.
I usually play with my 8-year-old son. I also love the sea, swimming, and have a passion for the cinema. Back in Spain I played hockey too, basically hockey was my life 24 hours a day but I will probably have some more free time over here to explore and improve my English.Surely, I will find some activities or maybe I’ll swim in the Thames.
I enjoy watching my teams grow, no matter where they start from. I love seeing them happy. However, I am a very competitive coach and in the end all I want is to see them win; we all want that I guess.
But, we must not forget that sometimes you win and sometimes you learn, and both matter to make progress.
Firstly, I want to get to know the team and the club in order to set expectations. Although I come from a high level of competition, it is important to keep my feet on the ground. I prefer to be cautious, but in the end there are no magic recipes for hockey other than hard work.
Well, first, I would like to thank you for trusting me, and I can assure you that I have come to do my best so that the club can grow.
My hope is to have the members support and join forces so that we reach success together.
